"Torso", Carved Rose Marble of Madagascar light salmon pink with patches of white and gray, c 1927. Signed "Lovet-Lorski" on the back of the left leg. Marble of the sculpture has an irregularity at the center of the torso, measuring approximately 1 1/8”x 3/8”, which is visible also at illustration in Armitage’s book (see p. 109) 13" high, raised on a black Belgian marble base, 6 7/8" high. Literature: Merle Armitage, SCULPTURE OF BORIS LOVET-LORSKI, New York, 1937, illustrated p. 109. The attached book is inscribed by the artist to the previous owner Martin Becker, "To my friend Martin [Becker], Boris, 1938". Provenance: Butler Kallahan, acquired directly from the artist, Paris, 1927; the Estate of Martin Becker; auction Schmidt's Antiques MI 18.2.2017 lot 50.
