A knight at the crossroad. Watercolor on paper, signed with Cyrillic initials BB and dated Mai 1922 low right. 13x9 inches. A replica of his famous oil painting (currently in Tretiakov Gallery, Moscow). It is a known fact that before dying in great poverty the artist found that he could sell copies of his earlier works more easily than pictures he was painting at that time. Another example of a similar copy was sold at Sotheby’s London sale “Twentieth century Russian Paintings, Drawings and Watercolours 1900-1925”July 1 1970 lot.10.
