Portrait signed Masjutyn c 1928 ash-gray stucco, representation of the great French writer Honoré de Balzac (1799 Tours to 1850, Paris) Dimensions 35 x 34 cm. In 1928 Masjutin had prepared 11 woodcuts for "The unknown masterpiece" by Balzac but the book was not published and woodcuts are known to exist only as a stand alone portfolio. Our portrait is probably coincides in time with this unpublished work. Only a few sculptures by Masjutin are known - portrait of Alexander Newsky in stucco executed in 1947, sculptures of the Russian Embassy on Unter den Linden, grave monument of the composer Mikhail Glinka in Tegel.
